Join us for the Emerging Recreation Leaders Institute, a new program for individuals with two to seven professional years of experience. This Institute will help you to better understand parks and recreation as a whole by broadening your knowledge base about varying aspects of the field. Seasoned professionals will serve as our faculty for each of the sessions. Topics to be discussed include:
- Aquatics Facilities
- Athletic Associations
- Boards, Commissions, and City Councils
- Budgets, Capital Improvement Plans, and Request for Proposals
- City Manager’s Role
- Collaborations and Private Partnerships
- Community Centers and Enterprise Funds
- Comprehensive Plans
- Golf Courses
- Human Resources
- Ice Arenas
- Leadership
- Organizational Finance
- Park Maintenance
- Policies and Procedures
- Referendums, Park Planning, Park Dedication, and Greenways / Open Space
- School Districts
- Staffing and Supervisory Skills
The curriculum will be discussed over six sessions, which run from September through December, 2008. The Institute will be limited to 40 participants. Registration includes Institute materials, lunches, and long-sleeve T-shirt.
