Unplug Day - Promotion Kit

As a way to share information with members, the Illinois Park & Recreation Association started Unplug Illinois Day eight years ago. Unplug Day is a statewide effort that encourages people to step away from screens and reconnect with recreation, nature, friends, family, and in-person experiences on July 11, 2026. Illinois Park & Recreation Association reached out to MRPA to share this Unplug Day with our membership in hopes of growing the initiative.

Although it references the state of Illinois, this information can be adapted for other states. In Illinois, communities host activities that promote unplugged time, whether that’s enjoying parks and trails, participating in recreational programs, playing games, or spending quality time together without devices.
